It is a very rare scene where we cricketers get into drama. Especially when it comes to international cricketers because they’re well aware of the fact as to what unnecessary drama can cause to their career. But at times, the truth or the lie comes out as controversial.
Maybe being too truthful about a situation came out as rather harsh and something which shouldn’t be published online.
Here are the 5 most controversial statements made by Indian players-
1. Dhoni’s Take On Slow Fielders
Back in the days when India was playing a series in Australia in 2012, a very big drama took place. The top three order of batsmen who were slow fielders was Virender Shewag, Sachin Tendulkar and Gautam Gahmbir.
Dhoni during a meeting with the council stated that the top 3 should be switched and any two of the players would be allowed to play at once.
Meanwhile, the third-place would be given away to a younger player, who can actually be quick with his reflex and do a good job, saving the field for the team.
2. Sehwag’s Reply To Dhoni
With the reference to the previous point, obviously, Sehwag wasn’t really happy with it, since he was called a slow fielder. Thus back when Dhoni got suspended from a match and Sehwag was the acting captain, he did do something out of the box.
Sehwag dropped a youngster to play all three, Sachin, Gambhir, and him. Later during a conference when he was asked about the “slow fielder” remark, he answered, “did you see my catch?” Apparently, at that match, Sehwag had a terrific catch. And this move was rather controversial.
3. Gambhir On Dhoni’s Innings
In one game, Gambhir and Dhoni both scored half a century, back in 2012. And apparently, India was able to defeat Australia though they had really low chances to do so.
Gambhir was not satisfied by Dhoni’s batting near the end of the match. So he clearly said in a press conference that, if Dhoni would have batted properly the game would have gotten over much before the last over.
4. Kumble’s Resignation Speech?
Anil Kumble, the former coach of the Indian cricket team. He did a pretty good job when it came to training and guiding the team. He backed off from his position right before Champions Trophy 2017.
The reason he gave behind his resignation was clearly stated by him, which said, Captain Virat Kholi had “reservations” about his coaching style.
However after Kumble resigned, Virat did have to take some hate from his fans, as it is kinda out in the air that Kohli is perhaps disrespectful at times.
5. Manjrekar On Jadeja’s Skills
Manjrekar had made a very controversial and perhaps mean statement against Jadeja. This happened during the ODI World cup 2019. Jadeja was called a “bits and pieces” during a game.
However, Jadeja did prove this entire statement wrong by standing out after being a terrific asset to the team. Especially when Jadeja was the one who actually turned the tables around when India was about to lose the World Cup against New Zealand. Jadeja came to the rescue and swooped off the game with his amazing skills.
Well, international or national, cricketer or a normal person, we all end up making controversial statements. Sometimes internationally and sometimes without the thought of it being controversial at the end of the day. It’s okay though, some stereotypes are based on reality as well.
