When it comes to picking a job, many people follow in their parents’ footsteps, and Cricket is no exception. Regardless of the field, it will be tough to live up to the expectation of being equally as excellent as, if not better than, your parents, especially if they are really successful.
We’ve seen some incredible cricketers throughout the world over the years. Each player, from Sachin Tendulkar to Steve Waugh, has had enormous success for their teams. Some of the great cricketer’s children have also chosen to follow in their father’s footsteps. Here are some renowned cricketers’ children who are pursuing what their parents pursued years ago.
1. Arjun Tendulkar- Son of Sachin Tendulkar
Sachin Tendulkar’s son, Arjun Tendulkar, is a famous cricketer. Arjun Tendulkar has demonstrated in the past that he is ready to follow in his father’s footsteps.
He scored 77 runs in just 26 balls last year, including five sixes in one over. His outstanding performance has paved the path for him to play in the IPL. The Mumbai Indians paid 30 lakhs for Arjun Tendulkar in the IPL 2022 mega auction.
2. Samit Dravid- Elder son of Rahul Dravid
‘The Great Wall’s aka Rahul Dravid’s son, Samit Dravid is only 16 years old, yet he is thought to have tremendous talent and has already established himself in junior cricket.
Rahul Dravid, Samit’s father, is his coach.
In 2016, he made his domestic debut for Bangalore United Cricket Club (BUCC) at the Tiger Cup cricket tournament at the age of 14. Samit hit 201 runs off 250 balls in the Karnataka State inter-zonal competition in December 2019.
3. Anvay Dravid- Younder son of Rahul Dravid
Rahul Dravid’s younger son is Anvay Dravid. He is 13 years old and, like his father Rahul Dravid and older brother Samit Dravid, is expected to pursue cricket seriously.
Anvay Dravid is a wicketkeeper-batsman who competed in the BTR Shield U-14 school cricket event in 2020 with his brother Samit Dravid. Mallya Aditi International School advanced to the semi-finals thanks to their double century collaboration.
4. Aryan Bangar- Son of Sanjay Bangar
Sanjay Bangar, an Indian cricketer, has a son named Aryan Bangar. Aryan, like his father, is a versatile player. He spent a season in the junior county game with Leicestershire in 2019.
Aryan represented Puducherry at the National U-19s in 2021 for Cooch Behar Trophy. In just five games, he hit 300 runs. Aryan hit two half-centuries and was the leading run-scorer with 150 runs and 20 wickets. He has a lot of promise, and it will be intriguing to see how his cricket career unfolds.
5. Aryavir Sehwag- Elder son of Virendra Sehwag
Virendra Sehwag, India’s right-handed opening batsman, has a son named Aryavir Sehwag. Aryavir’s Instagram feed is full of photos of him practising his batting. He made a video a few months ago about how he’s looking forward to the start of the matches.
Aryavir, like his father, is a right-handed batsman. In 2019, he played for Sehwag Academy in the Bimla Devi Dobal Cricket Center’s Sehwag Academy vs. Udaybhan Academy match. Sehwag Academy won after Aryavir scored 51 runs at the top of the rankings.
6. Vedant Sehwag- Younger son of Virendra Sehwag
Virendra Sehwag’s younger son, Vedant Sehwag, is also a cricketer. Aryavir and Vedant, like their father Virendra Sehwag, aspire to be professional cricketers. Vedant is now playing at the high school level. In 2021, he participated in a match and was awarded Player of the Match and Best Bowler.
7. Jake Lehmann- Son of Darren Lehmann
Jake Lehmann is the son of Darren Lehmann, a former Australian cricketer and coach. Jake Lehmann, like his father, is a left-handed batsman. In the Future Leagues, he represented South Australia for the first time.
He is now a part of the Brisbane Heat, a Big Bash League’s Twenty20 franchise cricket team.
8. Tagenarine Chanderpaul- Son of Shivnarine Chanderpaul
Tagenarine Chanderpaul is the son of Shivnarine Chanderpaul, a great West Indies batsman. He is a left-handed opening batsman who plays first-class cricket for Guyana. He also competed in the Under-19 World Cup for the West Indies.
He is most likely the only player on the list who has had the opportunity to pitch with his father. The father-son duo competed in the Super50 Cup, a domestic 50-over tournament in the West Indies.
9. Thando Ntini- Son of Makhaya Ntini
Masimphuthando Ntini is the son of Makhaya Ntini, a former South African cricketer. He is a 21-year-old right-handed fast bowler who debuted in the Africa T20 Cup for Western Province in 2018.
10. Austin Waugh- Son of Steve Waugh
Austin Waugh is the son of one of Australia’s most successful captains, Steve Waugh. Austin, like his father, is a versatile player. In the 2016 Under-17 National Championships, Austin bowled an unbroken 100. In addition, he competed in the Under-19 World Cup in New Zealand.
In Australian cricket, the Waugh family is well-known. Being a Waugh entails a great deal of stress in itself. As a result, Austin Waugh decided to take a vacation from cricket in 2020 to spend some time with his family. The cricketing world is hoping that he will return soon.
These legendary cricketer’s children have a big task to become something like their parents. Though it may appear that they have a predetermined route to follow, they are more than likely to carve their own road and find their own goals.
