Virat Kohli finally breached the 13000-run barrier in T20 cricket, and became the first Indian and 2nd player in the world to achieve this feat. Through the road-altered show, he crushed a decent 67 of every 42 balls with 8 fours and 2 sixes, during an IPL 2025 coordinate against the Mumbai Indians on Monday night.
Kohli’s feat places him in some mighty company. Only four others—Chris Gayle, Alex Hales, Shoaib Malik and Kieron Pollard—have surpassed the 13,000-run mark in T20s worldwide. Even more remarkably, Kohli is now the second-fastest player anywhere to reach this landmark. He is the second-fastest to this mark in terms of innings, managing the feat in only 386 innings. Only Chris Gayle (381 innings) reached the milestone faster.
The 36-year-old is in the form of his life this IPL season. He started with a 59 not out against KKR, followed that up with 31 on a difficult Chepauk pitch against CSK, had a dip with just 7 against Gujarat Titans but then roared back with that 67 against Mumbai.
In T20, Kohli now has 13,050 runs from 403 matches, 9 centuries and 99 fifties. In being this consistent, he isn’t just breaking records — he’s laying the groundwork for what others can aspire to.
