Delhi, RCB, and Punjab Fought Hard—How Punjab Snagged Priyansh

Everyone is being talking about Priyansh Arya after scoring a ton in IPL 2025. It has been an electrifying journey for the young batter. From being a star of the Delhi Premier League to becoming a Punjab Kings bigwig, he has done it all. He made waves at the Jeddah IPL auction and triggered a bidding war that had teams trying to outspend each other by throwing cash at him like confetti for a base price of just Rs 30 lakh. Punjab Kings, the Big Spender, bought him for a whopping Rs 3.80 crore — and easy to see why.

The auction was a frenzy. Day two began with Delhi Capitals taking the plunge first, and Punjab Kings not lagging far behind. It was the turn of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) to join the party and soon enough, Priyansh’s price crossed one crore. Punjab’s coach Ricky Ponting went all-in with his eyes on the prize, and his team of players secured the biggest purse in the tug-of-war. Funny thing? He first heard about Priyansh from Sourav Ganguly during his time as Delhi Capitals coach. Well, at that point, Priyansh didn’t get a spot, but that “reject” got him going.

From the Streets of Delhi to the IPL Spotlight

Priyansh’s breakthrough came while playing for South Delhi Superstars in the Delhi Premier League. In 10 innings he clobbered 608 runs, making jaws drop with every swing. His debut? A rapid 57 off 30 balls. Next game? 82 off 51. But it was the staggering against North Delhi Strikers – 120 off 50 balls, with six sixes in one over – that dropped jaws. Yeah, you read that right. There was a one man demolition man as he helped his team post 308 for 5 in 20 overs. That performance landed him on the map.

The Century That Closed the Deal

If that wasn’t enough, Priyansh held the best for last. A day ahead of the IPL auction, he had smashed 102 off 43 balls for Delhi in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy against Uttar Pradesh. The bowlers of UP — famous names like Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Shivam Mavi and Piyush Chawla — could not even touch him. That knock was more than a performance; it was a statement. It is no surprise that Punjab Kings invested heavily on him.

A Star Is Born

But the rise of Priyansh Arya is the stuff of dreams. From grinding away in local leagues to shining under the IPL lights, he has shown he has the guts and the game. Punjab Kings’ fans already have their mouth-watering and with Ponting on his side, this 25-year-old is all set to take the league by storm. So keep an eye on this space as Priyansh’s journey has just begun.
