Abhishek Sharma lit up Hyderabad on Saturday night with one of the most explosive knocks in IPL history. The 23-year-old smashed a 40-ball century—his first in the tournament—as Sunrisers Hyderabad chased down a huge 246-run target against Punjab Kings.
Batting at the top with Travis Head, Abhishek tore into Punjab’s bowling from the start. He reached his half-century in just 19 balls, then doubled down. His 141 off 55 balls now stands as the highest individual score by a Sunrisers Hyderabad batter, overtaking David Warner’s 131. It’s also the highest ever by an Indian in IPL history.
The hundred was the fifth-fastest ever in the league and just one ball slower than the fastest by an SRH player—Travis Head’s 39-ball ton last season. Together, the duo has given Hyderabad a new identity: bold, brutal, and fearless at the top.
The mood at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium was electric. SRH co-owner Kavya Maran couldn’t contain her excitement after Abhishek brought up his century. She jumped in celebration and hugged Abhishek’s parents in the stands, a moment that summed up the emotion of the night.
By the 11th over, SRH had already piled on 147 runs without losing a wicket. Abhishek and Head made what seemed like an impossible chase look routine. Punjab’s bowlers had no answers as the ball flew to all parts of the ground.
And while Chris Gayle’s 30-ball hundred in 2013 remains the fastest in IPL history, Abhishek’s effort will secure his place among the league’s greats.
For the fans of SRH, Saturday was not merely a win — it was hope, a vision of a fearless Indian batting future.
