I’ll Try, Just Don’t Get Me Run Out”: Surya’s Epic Post After Dhoni-Dube Heroics

Suryakumar Yadav isn’t just a star on the field—he’s also one of the most entertaining voices off it. After Chennai Super Kings (CSK) snapped a five-match losing streak with a win over Lucknow Super Giants, Surya posted a quirky tribute to MS Dhoni and Shivam Dube that instantly went viral.

Using a popular dialogue from MS Dhoni: The Untold Story, the biopic on the former India captain, Surya gave his own spin to CSK’s thrilling chase.

“Mahi bhai – Strike dega toh tum bana lega? Dube – Try kar lenge. Mahi bhai – Try karna hai toh hum hi kar lete hai. Tum bas runout mat karwa dena,” read his Instagram story, paired with photos of Dhoni and Dube. For non-Hindi speakers: it roughly translates to, “If I give you the strike, will you finish it? I’ll try. Then let me do it. Just don’t get me run out.”

The India T20I captain was clearly impressed with how Dhoni and Dube handled the pressure. Chasing 167, the pair put on an unbeaten 57-run stand off just 27 balls to seal the deal for CSK with five wickets in hand.

Dhoni, back at the helm after Ruturaj Gaikwad was ruled out with a fractured elbow, came in at No. 7 when CSK still needed 56 off 30 balls. The 43-year-old legend wasted no time, hitting two boundaries off Avesh Khan to close out the 16th over. Dube followed up with a four, and Dhoni ended the 17th over with a six.

Though Avesh kept it tight in the 18th, Shardul Thakur’s 19th over shifted momentum back to CSK. Dhoni finished with a blazing 26 off 11 balls, including four fours and a six, earning his first Player of the Match award in the IPL in six years. Dube top-scored with 43 off 37 balls.

Earlier, CSK’s bowlers held LSG to 166 for 7. Ravindra Jadeja (2/24), Anshul Kamboj (1/20), and Noor Ahmed (0/13) led a disciplined effort with the ball.

Surya, meanwhile, also gave a shoutout to 17-year-old Ayush Mhatre, his Mumbai teammate, who was picked as Ruturaj’s replacement in the CSK squad. It’s a classic Surya move—always cheering for fellow Indian players, no matter the team.

One thing’s for sure: when Dhoni is back in charge and Surya’s got jokes, the IPL is just more fun.
