Watch: Shreyas Iyer’s Reaction to Abhishek Sharma’s Century Note Has Fans Cracking Up

Abhishek Sharma smacked a brilliant 141 in just 55 balls as Sunrisers Hyderabad thrashed Punjab Kings on Saturday as he stole the show at the stadium. After a few weeks of struggling for form, the 24-year-old opener roared back in style — registering the highest score ever in IPL history by an Indian.

He wasn’t just scoring runs—he was rewriting the record books.

Abhishek’s century came with fireworks: 14 fours, 10 sixes, and a blazing strike rate of 256.36. After reaching his hundred, he pulled out a note from his pocket and held it up for the “Orange Army”—a gesture for the Sunrisers fans. The moment caught everyone’s attention, including PBKS captain Shreyas Iyer, who couldn’t resist asking to see what was written on it. The light-hearted exchange had the crowd laughing and added a touch of charm to an already electric game.

While Iyer himself had a strong outing—scoring 82 off 36—it was Abhishek’s day.

“This one is very special,” Abhishek said after the match. “We lost four games in a row, and I really wanted to break that. We never spoke about it in the team, but everyone felt it. The support from the captain, the team—it kept things simple even when we weren’t doing well.”

Abhishek also credited cricket icons Yuvraj Singh and Suryakumar Yadav for backing him during his rough patch. “They’ve been in touch with me,” he said.

His parents were in the crowd to witness the milestone. “I’ve been waiting for them to come. My whole team was waiting too. They’ve been lucky for SRH,” he added with a grin.

The partnership with Head played a big role too. “We didn’t talk much—just natural play. That boosted me.”

Abhishek’s 141 now stands as the highest individual IPL score by an Indian, surpassing KL Rahul’s 132* in 2020. It’s also the third-highest overall in IPL history, behind Chris Gayle’s 175* and Brendon McCullum’s 158*.

He also broke Jonny Bairstow’s record for most runs in an innings via boundaries for SRH (116) and overtook David Warner’s record for most sixes in a single SRH innings.
