5 Biggest Mistakes In The History Of Cricket That Broke Million Of Hearts

Some moves might be a good opportunity for one team, but it might be something another team yearned and hoped for. A decision can either cause a backlog to the entire team, or it can also help the team to break a record and create history. Just like that these are the few decisions that set a stone for cricketers and their team.

1. Thisara Perera and Rohit Sharma

Rohit could have been dismissed on four runs, only if Perera successfully caught an easy ball. Fortunately enough for Sharma, Perar missed the ball and Sharma finally was able to score 264 runs which broke the world record.

2. Ashwin’s overstepping which shattered hearts

It’s very unlikely for a spinner to overstep the line since their run-ups are mainly short and slow. But unfortunately, Ashwin overstepped during the T20 World Cup final. Which got tagged as no-ball. Not only that, that small mistake led India to be out of the finals.

3. Gibbs and World Cup

During a match against South Africa, Australia somehow had to win to move forward with the match. Since they already lost two matches against New Zealand and Pakistan. Gibb’s century already helped Australia to win somehow, but the massacre happened when he was feilding.

Gibbs caught a ball Waugh shot, and just because he wanted to celebrate he dropped the ball. That did cause a huge setback, regardless Australia won that match.

4. Australian review massacre

This moment comes from one of the greatest Test matches in the sport’s history. Ben Stokes etched his name into the minds of cricket fans all over the world with his match-saving knock. What will sting Australia is the fact that they could have won the match easily had they used their reviews shrewdly.

England was at 351-9 with 9 runs needed to level the series 1-1. Leach was on strike as a yorker by Pat Cummins crashed onto his leg. Everyone who watched it knew that the ball had pitched outside leg and was clearly not out. Australia in desperation chose to review the decision, which cost them their remaining review.

In the next over, England needed 2 to win when Stokes attempted a sweep against Nathan Lyon. The ball struck his pads, and replays showed that Stokes was clearly out. The umpire had however signaled not out and Australia couldn’t review it. One DRS review cost Australia the Ashes win.

5. World Cup and the final overthrow

This is a very recent incident and can be tagged as something that even non-New Zealand goes, “oof, that’s really bad.”  England and New Zealand qualified for the World Cup finals.

England needed 9 runs from 3 balls. The match was tied, so was the super-over, and England won by superior boundary count.

Simon Taufel, the great Australian umpire, later pointed out that Dharmasena had made a mistake in awarding 6 runs instead of 5 to England. While it is unfair to put the entire blame on the umpire, this mistake more or less cost New Zealand their chance at World Cup glory.
