Indian Cricket League, is one of the most integral parts when it comes to a cricketer’s career and the audience too. But at times the ICL knowingly or even unknowingly ruined cricketer’s career just because of their hasty decisions. Most of them came off as unfair but no action was significantly taken against ICL for this move either. And that’s is the worst part of it all.
5 players, whose career was ruined due to the Indian Cricket League:
1. Aftab Ahmed
Aftab has alway been one of the most promising cricketers for the Bangladeshi team. He was the one everyone in the team counted on. He made his ODI debut at the age of only 19 . He also played 85 ODIs, 16 Tests, and 11 T20 matches for Bangladesh’s cricket team.
Back when Bangladeshi Government imposed a ban on the players from against in the Indian Cricket League, created a bandwagon in his career. In the list of players who got banned, Aftab was one of them and that’s when it marked a full stop to his cricket career, right there.
2. Rohan Gavaskar
Being Sunil’s son, everyone expected Rohan to be indifferent and leave a spot. People thought he’d be stealing the limelight from other players. But that didn’t really happen, something exactly opposite to that happened. He failed to fetch a good impression, neither did his performance remain up to the mark. He gradually faded, because his skills weren’t good enough to be selected for a long run. He played only 11 ODIs for India. It was in the year 2007 when Rohan joined the Indian Cricket League however, he still could not leave a lasting impression there.
3. Justin Kemp
Justin is a very prominent name when it comes to the cricket world. He’s a very talented batsman and he was also the South African captain. His decision to become a part of the Indian Cricket League was the most crucial thing. That’s when his entire career was devastated and things went haywire. During his career, he played 85 ODIs for South Africa. Besides this, he represented his side in 4 tests and 8 T20s.
4. Mohammad Sami
When we say Pakistan won a match, it was mainly because Pakistan had Sami in its team and there was no other visible reason for its win. In 2001 he literally took 2001 wickets single handedly. He has played 36 Tests, 87 ODIs and 7 T20s for Pakistan. But when he joined the ICL, he couldn’t play for Pakistan anymore. Though his career didn’t particularly go down the drain, it did get highly affected because he’s not the player he used to be. And his performance has significantly deteriorated.
5. Shane Bond
Shane was tagged as a traitor just because he joined the OCL. Instead of watching out how important that move was for his career and growth perspective, people had the audacity to label stuff onto him. His decision was very nicely made, but his career ended just because of messed up politics and media controversy issues, which makes no sense at all. He has taken 87 wickets in 18 tests. Besides this, he has taken 147 wickets in 82 ODIs.
