Uthappa Calls Dhoni’s Run-Out a ‘Tukka’—Fans Disagree

MS Dhoni turned back the clock with a stunning run-out during Chennai Super Kings’ IPL clash against Lucknow Super Giants on Monday—but not everyone was convinced it was pure skill.

Abdul Samad took a chance with a single in the 14th over. With trademark coolness, Dhoni collected the wayward ball behind the stumps and made a nonchalant underarm flick at the non-striker’s end. The stumps illuminated, the crowd erupted and the commentators couldn’t stop gushing.

Former CSK player and wicketkeeper himself, Robin Uthappa, however, had a different opinion. Uthappa said on Star Sports, “I even donned gloves. That was a tukka (fluke).”

Regardless of what Uthappa thinks, the moment added another iconic clip to Dhoni’s already stacked highlight reel. And it wasn’t the only milestone he hit that night.

The 42-year-old veteran became the first player in IPL history to record 200 fielding dismissals. He now has 201 to his name—155 catches and 46 stumpings—in 271 matches. Dinesh Karthik is second with 182 dismissals, followed by AB de Villiers with 126.

Earlier in the match at Lucknow’s Ekana Stadium, Dhoni had also stumped Ayush Badoni with trademark lightning speed. Badoni missed a delivery from Ravindra Jadeja, and Dhoni whipped off the bails in a flash.

To top it off, he grabbed a sharp catch off Rishabh Pant in the final over, helping CSK restrict LSG to 166/7.

For LSG, Pant fought hard with a 63 off 49 balls, including four sixes and four boundaries. He stitched together a 50-run stand with Mitchell Marsh (30 off 25), and later a quick 53-run partnership with Samad (20 off 11) to give their innings a boost.

CSK’s bowling unit did the job—Jadeja took 2/24, while Matheesha Pathirana finished with 2/45.

Dhoni won the toss and chose to bowl, and as always, led with calm and control. The result? A historic personal milestone, a clutch run-out, and another day of proving age is just a number.
