It was a tough night at home for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), as they lost to a red-hot Delhi Capitals (DC) by six wickets in their IPL 2025 clash on Thursday. RCB started well but was unable to stop DC’s KL Rahul, who clobbered an unbeaten 93 to guide his side to an easy win.
RCB scored 163 runs, which they aimed to defend on their home ground. Their bowlers made early inroads, breaking DC’s top order with three early wickets for only 30 runs. But Rahul, batting on the ground he learned the game as a child, had other ideas. He seized the initiative, romping through the final overs to slam the target with 2.1 overs to spare, continuing DC’s unbeaten streak in the tournament.
As the contest started to drift, cameras caught RCB’s Virat Kohli in a terse discussion with coach Dinesh Karthik on the sidelines. Kohli, understandably frustrated, appeared to question a few on-field calls. Fans and commentators speculated if Kohli was unhappy with skipper Rajat Patidar’s functioning. On-air analysts Aakash Chopra and Virender Sehwag both made the point that Kohli must take the matter up directly with Patidar, as he’s no longer captain. Others noticed Kohli engrossed in animated conversations with veteran fast bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar, but the reason behind the talks is still yet to be revealed.

Patidar took the blame on RCB’s batting collapse after the match. “We got a mismatch on the pitch,” he said. “It seemed like a good batting track, but we went 80 for 1 to 90 for 4. That isn’t going to cut it with our lineup.” He hailed the late fireworks of Tim David and the bowlers’ work in the powerplay but insisted there was a need to “keep things simple” going forward.
This loss has also left RCB on the third position on the points table of IPL 2025, with DC still leading the table. KM Asif to take my pick but RCB hoping to bounce back on their home ground with the crowd still backing them as they will need to perfect their game as the tournament becomes more intense.
