IPL 2025: Not Again! Rohit Sharma’s ‘Leaked’ Chat Fuels Fresh MI Controversy

IPL 2025: Rohit Sharma is once again in news but not for cardio cricket. Fans were left speculating after MI’s social media took to the video of the incident. The six-second reel, shared before MI’s contest against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) earlier this Thursday in IPL 2025, was actually supposed to showcase Rohit’s camaraderie with LSG captain Rishabh Pant. But what particularly drew the attention of fans was Rohit’s brief conversation with former MI coach Zaheer Khan.

Rohit is heard speaking in the initial moments of the clip: “Jo jab karna tha maine kiya barabar se, ab mereko kuch karne ki zarurat nahi hai” (Whatever had to be done, I did it properly, now I don’t need to do anything). That single line was enough to send social media into a tizzy with fans speculating that the India captain was alluding to his role — or lack of it — in Mumbai Indians’ ongoing season.

Déjà Vu for MI Fans

This is not the first time that Rohit’s chat outside the ground has sparked a controversy. Speaking to then-Kolkata Knight Riders assistant coach Abhishek Nayar during IPL 2024, a leaked video of the conversation surfaced right before an MI vs KKR game. Though the conversation wasn’t entirely clear, many interpreted him as talking about internal issues at MI. KKR deleted the video later, but not before it ignited large debate. KKR CEO Venky Mysore called it a ‘storm in a teacup’ but for MI fans, the fear remained.

What’s the Buzz This Time?

Rohit’s latest viral moment has left fans questioning whether it was directed at his reduced leadership role, with MI already under pressure after their performance and absence of captaincy/leadership ambiguities. Was it about MI’s strategies? Or is this just more blind fan speculation?

Neither MI nor Rohit have commented on the controversy, but with IPL 2025 intensifying, all eyes will be on how the five-time champions deal with the off-field chatter.
