MS Dhoni Creates History, First Player in IPL to Complete…

Another feather was added to the cap of legendary career of MS Dhoni. The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain is the first player in the Indian Premier League (IPL) to achieve the feat of 200 fielding dismissals, creating a new record for wicketkeepers in IPL.

The 42-year-old reached the record during CSK’s clash against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on Monday at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow. In the 14th over, Dhoni pulled off a trademark stumping to dismiss Ayush Badoni, who had stepped out trying to take on Ravindra Jadeja. Jadeja beat the bat, and Dhoni did the rest—grabbing the ball and whipping off the bails in a flash.

Later in the final over, Dhoni took a sharp catch to send back LSG captain Rishabh Pant, sealing his 200th dismissal in the IPL. He now stands at 201 total dismissals, made up of 155 catches and 46 stumpings, across 271 IPL matches.

Former India keeper Dinesh Karthik trails behind with 182 dismissals, while AB de Villiers sits in third with 126.

As for the match itself, CSK won the toss and put Lucknow in to bat. LSG posted 166/7 in their 20 overs. Pant top-scored with a 49-ball 63, hitting four fours and four sixes. He also stitched a late 53-run stand with Abdul Samad, who chipped in with a quick 20 off 11 balls.

For CSK, Ravindra Jadeja was sharp with the ball, picking up 2/24. Sri Lankan pacer Matheesha Pathirana also grabbed two wickets but went for 45 runs.

While the match had its moments, it was Dhoni’s record-breaking night that stood out—proof that even after all these years, Thala still owns the spotlight.
