Baba Ki Marzi’: Nita Ambani Responds to Rohit Captaincy Chant in Shirdi, Watch Video

During a recent visit to the Shri Sai Baba temple in Shirdi, Mumbai Indians owner Nita Ambani was met with a passionate plea from a fan: bring back Rohit Sharma as captain.

“Madam, Rohit ko captain karo, Rohit ko captain karo,” the fan shouted, hoping to sway MI’s top brass. Nita’s response? A calm, “Baba ki marzi” — leaving it to divine will.

The moment, captured on video, quickly made the rounds online and added fuel to the ongoing debate about leadership at MI.

Mixed Season, Mixed Signals

Mumbai Indians notched up their second win of the season with a tight 12-run victory over Delhi Capitals on April 13. It was their first away win this year, and while Hardik Pandya officially led the team, Rohit Sharma’s influence was still felt.

Reports say Rohit suggested switching the ball to tackle the dew, a move that played a key role in choking DC’s chase. The introduction of impact player Karn Sharma also turned the game. But former cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar, on commentary duty, credited Hardik for executing the plan and taking charge on the field.

Hardik’s Rocky Return

Hardik Pandya’s return as MI captain hasn’t gone smoothly. The former Gujarat Titans skipper — who led them to the IPL title in 2022 — faced loud boos from crowds, including at MI’s own Wankhede Stadium. MI’s poor run last season, with just four wins from 14 matches, didn’t help his case.

However, Hardik did bounce back on the international stage, playing a key role in India’s T20 World Cup 2024 win and their Champions Trophy 2025 triumph under Rohit’s captaincy. Still, this IPL season remains shaky. MI have lost four of their six games so far, three under Hardik, who missed the opener due to a ban.

Rohit’s Form Adds to the Puzzle

Even as fans chant for Rohit’s return as captain, his bat has stayed quiet. He’s scored only 56 runs from five games, averaging just 11.20 — a steep drop after his standout performance in the Champions Trophy.

MI are now seventh on the table and will face the high-flying Sunrisers Hyderabad at home on April 17. As pressure mounts, both on-field performances and off-field choices will be under the spotlight — and fans aren’t staying quiet about who they want at the helm.
