Royal Challengers Bangalore celebrated a solid win over Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium—but the post-match mood may have dimmed a bit for skipper Rajat Patidar. The BCCI has fined him ₹12 lakh for a slow over rate during match number 20 of IPL 2025.
This was RCB’s third win of the season, but they couldn’t finish their overs in the allotted time. As a result, the team was penalized on the field too—RCB had to manage the final over with only four fielders outside the inner circle. Thankfully for them, the delayed over didn’t cost them the game.
However, the match officials didn’t let it slide. The fine was imposed under Article 2.2 of the IPL Code of Conduct, which deals with slow over-rate offenses. Since this was RCB’s first violation of the season, Patidar got off with the minimum fine—₹12 lakh.
He’s not the only captain to get into trouble over this. Hardik Pandya (MI), Riyan Parag (RR), and Rishabh Pant (LSG) have all been fined the same amount this season for similar delays.
The IPL has been cracking down hard on over-rate issues this year, and captains will need to stay sharp to avoid heavier penalties for repeat offenses.
