The IPL 2025 match between Gujarat Titans (GT) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) at Ahmedabad on Wednesday was filled with drama, high-scoring runs and one moment that has left fans talking. The core of it was RR’s Riyan Parag, trapped in a dismissal so tricky it’s still being talked about.
It all went down in the seventh over at Narendra Modi Stadium. GT’s left-arm pacer Kulwant Khejroliya fired one down, and Parag was given out caught behind. The RR batter wasn’t having it—he called for a DRS review. At first glance, it looked like a no-brainer out, but replays muddied the waters. A spike flashed on the ultra-edge as the ball zipped past the bat, but here’s the twist: Parag’s bat also smacked the ground at the same time. Coincidence or not, the third umpire stuck with the out call. Parag, visibly fuming, even had a quick word with the umpire as he trudged off. Social media? It’s split down the middle—half say he’s hard done by, half reckon he’s just out.
Earlier, GT’s batting fireworks set the stage. Opener Sai Sudarshan smashed a gutsy 82, powering the hosts to a hefty 217/6 in their 20 overs. RR skipper Sanju Samson won the toss and chose to bowl, probably hoping to keep GT in check. That plan didn’t quite work out.
GT’s innings kicked off with Shubman Gill and Sudarshan at the crease, but Gill’s stay was short—gone for just 2 in the third over. The 50 came up in the sixth, thanks to a wayward wide from RR’s Sandeep Sharma. Then Jos Buttler stepped up, joining Sudarshan for a slick 80-run stand off 47 balls. Buttler chipped in with 36 off 25 before spinner Maheesh Theekshana sent him packing in the 10th.
Shahrukh Khan strode in next, and he and Sudarshan stitched together a blazing 62 off 34 balls. Theekshana struck again in the 16th, breaking that partnership at 154. But GT weren’t done. Rahul Tewatia (24* off 12) and Rashid Khan (12 off 4) blasted some late runs to push the total past 200.
For RR, Theekshana (2/54) and Tushar Deshpande (2/53) grabbed two wickets each, while Jofra Archer (1/30) and Sandeep Sharma (1/41) chipped in with one apiece. Solid, but not enough to stop GT’s charge.
With 217 on the board and Parag’s controversial exit stealing headlines, this match is already one for the books. What’s your take—was he out or robbed?
