RR Slammed for Super Over Blunder as DC Clinch Thriller in Four Balls

Rajasthan Royals’ puzzling Super Over strategy cost them big against Delhi Capitals in a nail-biting IPL 2025 clash on Wednesday. The match, which was the first of the season to go into a Super Over, ended in just four deliveries as DC cruised to victory—leaving RR fans and cricket pundits scratching their heads.

After both teams tied at 188 runs in regulation play, RR sent out Shimron Hetmyer and Riyan Parag to bat in the Super Over. The duo only managed 11 runs for the loss of two wickets. In response, DC knocked off the target with ease, thanks to some power hitting and a composed chase.

Former India batter and 1983 World Cup winner Krishnamachari Srikkanth didn’t hold back, tearing into RR’s decision-making on social media.

“Terrible call by RR. You had a batter who handles Starc well, but sent out two who were struggling. It was literally a walkover for DC!” Srikkanth posted on X (formerly Twitter). He also emphasized, “Catches win matches!”—a jab at RR’s fielding lapses.

Star pacer Mitchell Starc, who bowled the Super Over for DC, proved too good for Parag and Hetmyer. Meanwhile, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Nitish Rana, who looked sharp during the main innings with 51 runs each, were surprisingly overlooked for the crunch moment.

Parag struggled earlier, scoring 8 off 11, and Hetmyer managed an unbeaten 15 off 9—far from match-winning form.

DC’s win was their fifth in six games, keeping them high on the table, while RR slipped further with their fifth loss in seven matches.

Speaking after the game, RR captain Sanju Samson praised his team’s fight and credited DC’s bowlers, especially Starc. “Starcy is one of the best in the world. He won them the game in the 20th over and the Super Over. We thought the score was chaseable, but they just outplayed us.”
