Hyderabad, April 12 – Abhishek Sharma lit up the Uppal Stadium on Saturday night with a blistering 141 off just 55 balls, leading Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) to one of the most outrageous run chases in IPL history. Chasing a massive 246 against Punjab Kings (PBKS), SRH crossed the line with ease—eight wickets in hand and nine balls left.
The 23-year-old left-hander didn’t just play a great innings—he rewrote the record books. His 141 is now the highest score ever in an IPL run chase, overtaking Marcus Stoinis’ unbeaten 124 from last season. Only Chris Gayle (175) and Brendon McCullum (158) have scored more in any IPL innings.
Abhishek’s knock included 14 fours and 10 sixes. He brought up his century in just 40 balls and didn’t slow down one bit after that. He especially went after Yuzvendra Chahal, hammering 19 runs off the 15th over.
SRH’s chase was anchored by a 171-run opening stand between Abhishek and Travis Head, who chipped in with 66 off 37. The duo, now dubbed “Travishek,” made the daunting target look like a routine task. The stand ended when Head holed out to Glenn Maxwell, but by then, the game was nearly sealed.
This win snapped SRH’s four-match losing streak and gave them a much-needed boost, lifting them to eighth on the points table with two wins in six games. PBKS, with three wins in five, sit in sixth.
Saturday’s run chase now ranks as the second-highest in IPL history. Only PBKS’s successful chase of 262 against Kolkata Knight Riders last year ranks higher.
As for Marcus Stoinis, he reminded everyone of his firepower too—slamming 34 off 11 balls, including four back-to-back sixes off Mohammed Shami in the final over of PBKS’s innings. But on a night of big hits, even that cameo was overshadowed by Abhishek’s rampage.
The crowd at Uppal couldn’t have asked for more. Loud, electric, and on their feet for every big shot—Hyderabad had its hero, and his name was Abhishek Sharma.
