From Title Contenders to Table Bottom: What’s Going Wrong for SRH?

Sunrisers Hyderabad are in a spot of bother. It’s now four losses in a row after a decent start to IPL 2025, and the fans are starting to get restless.

Their recent defeat was against Gujarat Titans who reached the target comfortably with seven wickets in hand. For SRH, it was another batting debacle as they once again failed to get the runs with their top order batters failing.

Head coach Daniel Vettori was not sugarcoating things post-match.

“We literally haven’t been close to our best in any of the last four games,” Vettori said. “It’s not only the batting or the bowling but our fielding’s been poor as well. That’s something we need to fix before our next match.”

Fielding has emerged as a real indicator of how teams are faring in the IPL, Vettori stressed, and SRH’s standards in that department — like others — have been poor in recent times.

The team’s batting problems were visible in the Gujarat game. The pitch in Hyderabad was on the slower side and SRH never got used to it. Vettori says their problems stem from an inability to read the conditions right.

“This wasn’t a normal Hyderabad wicket,” he said. “We knew that 160-170 would be a good score but we just didn’t apply ourselves. We have to deal with the conditions and adapt better.”

He also praised the opposition’s smart planning against the top three batters of SRH.

“I mean, it’s just facts, other teams are bowling really well. “They’re spending a lot of time thinking about how to get our top order—and it’s working,” admitted Vettori.

SRH are at the bottom of the points table with just one win in five games. As they head towards what is a must-win clash against Punjab Kings if they are to remain in the hunt this season.

SRH supporters would be wishing the team bounce back and regain their touch to prove the hype surrounding them at the beginning of the tournament right.
