Sundar’s IPL Comeback Sparks Google CEO’s Throwback Tweet

Washington Sundar made his mark in style on Saturday night, playing a key role in Gujarat Titans’ seven-wicket win over Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL 2025. And it didn’t go unnoticed — especially by Google CEO Sundar Pichai, who had once questioned why the all-rounder wasn’t getting more chances in the IPL.

GT jumped on the moment to bring back Pichai’s old tweet, where the tech boss had responded to a fan wondering why Sundar was sitting out games despite his strong performances for India. The franchise used the tweet to celebrate Sundar’s standout knock — a sharp 49 off 29 balls that helped Titans chase down 153 with ease against his former team, SRH.

This was Sundar’s first match for Gujarat Titans, and it came with extra weight. Not only was he playing against the team that barely used him over the past three years, but he also hadn’t seen consistent game time in the IPL since his stint with Royal Challengers Bengaluru ended in 2021. Even back then, his best season saw just 15 appearances.

Despite limited IPL exposure, Sundar has been a reliable presence in India’s national setup. He was recently part of the T20I squad against Bangladesh and made it to the Test squad for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Though he didn’t play in the Champions Trophy, his name keeps coming up when India needs a dependable all-round option.

Now with Gujarat, Sundar seems ready to flip the script. His performance against SRH wasn’t just a personal comeback — it was a reminder of what he can bring to the table when trusted with a proper role.

If he keeps this up, he won’t just be trending in old tweets — he’ll be making headlines all season.
